I) Incubator/ Hatchery
 
·   - temp 100F, humidity 45-55%
·    - incubate eggs ≤7 days after laying
·    - “candle” eggs to test if embryo is developing 10-15 days after incubation
·    - move eggs from “setting" to “hatching” area within incubator on day 18 or 19
·    - eggs hatch around day21 of incubation





II) Chicken Coop
·      -holds 800chickens
·      -egg hens: White Leghorn
·      -meat hens: Cornish Crown
·      -breeds separated to prevent crossing
·      -1square foot of space for each bird





III) Drip Irrigation 
·      Corn (2013 season)
-larval pests damaging yield
-pesticides applied ONLY if pests threaten yield and profit
·      Cabbage (2014 season)
-harvest in 15weeks
-school sells  all crops 2-3 days
Watermelon grown through black groundcover tarp
used to suppress weeds
   
IV) Hydroponic Agriculture
·      Nutrient Film Technology
-3inch diameter plastic net pots
-roots soak in nutrient-enriched water 
-perlite for growing material
·      Shadehouse1: celery, romaine lettuce
·      Shadehouse2: tomatoes (+raised-bed peppers)
·      Water pH 5.5à 6.5
-baking soda increases pH (alkaline/ basic)
-vinegar (acetic acid) decreases pH (acidic)
·      TDS (total dissolved solid) 220ppm
·      HydroGro fertilizer
      - ¾ teaspoon for each 1gallon water
      -$100/ bucket,
      -sustains South Andros’ hydro system 1year
Future Goals:
VI) Aquaculture
-raise fish in reservoirs
-fish wastes feed nutrients to plants

VII) Livestock Operation
-goats and pigs
-closed pens and rotational grazing
